Dominion Salt is an ISO 9001 certified manufacturer and produces premium salt product for use in a variety of industries. Many of salt's applications have changed little down through the millennia, including its use in the tanning of cattle hides and sheepskins. Likewise, it has long been used as a preservative, in the drying and pickling of foods, especially fish and meat. Coarse salt is used by the fishing industry to make brine. Water treatment facilities use salt to treat town supply water.

Salt plays a vital role in the chemical industry. Sodium chloride is a key component in the production of sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), soda ash (used in glass and soap), caustic soda (used in paper, textiles, petroleum, rubber reclaiming, dyes and soaps), sodium chromate (tanning, pigments and dyes) and sodium sulphate (for use in glass paper and dyeing).

Sodium nitrate is used for explosives, fertilisers and as a preservative, while sodium silicate has applications in flame-proofing and soap. Salt is also used to produce chlorine for bleaches and disinfectants.

Where very clean and pure salt is required, for example in the food industry, Dominion Salt supplies Pure Dried Vacuum salt. This is used in the production of cheese, butter, preserved meats, canned foods and in flavoured salts for coating potato crisps and snack foods.
