Fonterra Vendor Awards 2014

Dominion Salt was recently invited to take part in the 2014 Fonterra Vendor Awards. The Awards provide a platform to recognise vendor performance excellence and trusted partnerships.

This was an honourable invitation, that Dominion was pleased to participate in.   It involved submitting nominations from a selection of categories of which Dominion identified two specific areas that we were confident we could deliver a strong case study.

The criteria for each nomination required supporting evidence of commitment, potential benefits, demonstration of innovation and best practise, and ease of implementation.

Matt Ford our North Island Account Manager did an excellent job of collating and submitting documentation to support the following two category nominations. The below is a summary of the Case Studies we supplied for our nominations:

The extra mile service award

Having endured extensive damage during the 2013 Earthquakes at Lake Grassmere, our nomination outlined the challenges and commitment our Staff & Company endured, to maintain an uninterrupted supply to the Fonterra sites.

Best sustainability initiative

As part of our on-going commitment to look after the environment, use renewable resources and keep costs down Dominion Salt made a commitment to investigate alternate sources of energy.

In early 2014 Dominion Salt completed the installation of a wind turbine to supplement existing power supply from the grid. This turbine now supplies around 70% of our electricity needs with renewable, environmentally friendly energy.  This project helps ensure the long term viability of our business by reducing costs and making our site more self-sufficient.

With our nominations accepted, we were very pleased to then be announced as finalists in both categories.   As finalists we were invited to attend the Vendor Awards Ceremony and Conference held in Auckland on 18 September. Dominion was represented at the Awards by Shane Dufaur-CEO, Robin Piggott-Sales Manager and Matt Ford- NI Account Manager. The “Black Tie” event was well supported by Fonterra staff and Vendors and with Pine Tree (Colin Meads) as the guest speaker it was an entertaining event.

Dominion Salt was very pleased to be recognised for our performance excellence and acknowledged as a trusted partner of Fonterra Ltd.
